Day 10 - On the road again...

The three amigos saddled up and caught the 0700 water taxi back to the mainland this morning. After a bone shaking 2 hour ride we finally reached Corazol hungry and in search of the bathroom. A quick stop at a store/make shift restaurant had us fed, watered and on our way to the border. It was a quick trip through customs and we turned directly into the wind for the ride. The heat and wind quickly took its toll on us and with good intentions of riding until 5pm had Roger hitting the wall shortly after noon. We decided to stay another evening at the Hotel America and take in the local venues even though Kerry wanted to keep riding. That guy is a bicycle God! We toured a fort built in 1833 (Museo San Felipe Bacalar), had some Cervezas on a pier overlooking the lagoon and finished off the evening with some Mexican takeout, pollo, tortillas and salsa. Kerry and Perry are watching a bullfight on tv while I edit the blog. Tomorrow has us riding 114 kms to FCP. ** general disclaimer** This post has been edited by Kerry.

Day 9 - Mayan ruins and somewhere down a lazy river?

Today we all took a high speed water taxi from San Pedro to Belize City where we were met by a guide who transported us to the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich and then to Cave Branch River for cave exploration as we traveled through them floating on inner tubes. Our guide was really good. His name is Carlos Gonzalez and his email address is tourguide33@yahoo.com

The Xunantunich Ruins are quite spectacular although not the largest in Central America. Tomorrow our team will be splitting up, Doug and Jeremy will be going over to Guatemala to see the ruins at Tekal. These are very impressive ruins and much larger than Xunantunich. Kerry has been there twice before and says they are amazing.

Tomorrow Kerry, Roger and Perry are going to do the ride back from Belize to Cozumel and will eventually meet up in Puerto Morales with Doug and Jeremy, who have decided to return by bus rather than ride over the same route again.

Day 8 - Snorkeling in shark ray alley.

Today is another glorious day in the Caribbean. This morning Kerry and Roger took a long walk down the beach while the rest of the team slept. They do a lot of that. It probably has something to with booze consumption.

We all just got back from a 2 hour adventure out to the reef where Kerry scuba dived while the rest of us snorkeled. I have snorkeled in Cancun, Ixtapa and Varadero and have never seen anything that comes close to what we seen today! The first stop was on a reef inside a protected area with barracuda, eels, tarpon and countless varieties of colorful tropical fish. The second area was named shark ray alley and more then lived up to its name. One of the guides held a nurse shark in his arms for the rest of us to touch. There were several rays swimming in the area also. I was given a piece of chum which had the fish eating out of my hand...very neat experience. Jen had the only underwater camera so no pictures to post at this time.

Kerry is going to have the doctor look at his foot again to decide if he will ride back to Cancun, Mexico. It's almost 400 kilometers through the jungle so he wants to be sure that his foot can take it.

Day 7 update by Kerry

Today was a quiet day. Some of us rode along the beach to the north part of the island. Kerry went to see a doctor about his heal pain. May have to take bus home. The doctor will give the verdict tomorrow.
